2010 REGION 2 CONFERENCE
"SHORE TO LEAD"
Ocean City High School & the Ocean City Tabernacle
Ocean City, NJ -
April 23 to 25, 2010
On the weekend of April 23-25, 2010 over 70 student leaders and their advisers from throughout Region 2 gathered at Ocean City, New Jersey for a truly unforgettable leadership experience. At this conference, the student leaders from each state presented workshops and roundtables to share the great things they are doing. Outgoing NASC Advisory Council members Stephen DeSalvo (NY - student) and Mike White (adviser - PA) guided everyone in the drafting of a new mission statement for our region, which is presented on each page of this website.
The student hosts from Ocean City High School planned conference activities throughout the weekend that not only integrated their school and the surrounding resort community, but provided meaningful and enjoyable leadership experiences for all who attended. The "Amazing Race" throughout Ocean City High School will not soon be forgotten, nor will the many memories made on the beaches and boardwalk of Ocean City. The student leaders of Ocean City High School worked hard throughout the year, with the guidance of their advisor Matt Purdue. On that weekend in April 2010, they proved to all in attendance what we already know - that a STUDENT planned, organized, and executed conference provides the best experience for not only the leaders who plan it but also the leaders who attend it. They were honored at the NJASC Spring Awards Program at Six Flags Great Adventure with a special plaque for their efforts representing both their school and New Jersey with distinction.
Regarding NASC, Lou Miller (NJ) was chosen by our Regional Selection Committee (RSC) to serve a two-year term from 2010-2012 on the NASC Advisory Council. With the changes in the structure of the Advisory Council there will no longer be a student AND advisor from each Region, but only one representative that will alternate every two years. Despite this change, the leaders of our Region felt strongly that a student voice would be needed over the next two years. As a result, the decision was made to elect a "Student Liaison" to provide a student voice and leadership presence for our Region. A second Regional Selection Committee meeting was convened, and Sarah Rudasill (PA) was selected to become the first Student Liaison for Region 2. While Sarah will not be a member of the NASC Advisory Council, she will work with Lou and will travel to all five states of our Region over her two-year term. At our 2012 Region 2 Conference, which will be held in Maryland, a student will be selected to serve on the NASC Advisory Council and an adviser to become the Region 2 "Adviser Liaison" from 2012-2014.
